Anyways, to the actual game. The game is interesting, whilst, they did not have a video, showcasing how the players got there, it did have a teaser.
You start the game in the dock, to be more precise, A ship captain by the name of Virgil leaves you, to for an unknown reason, other than to pick up other survivors.
The game play was very fluid, with the graphics amazing, in fact, this looked nothing like the Source engine, very nice.
Player dialogue was quite interesting, and humorous at times.
SURVIVORS
Mostly all the characters (Nick, Rochelle, Ellis, Coach) with the exemption of Rochelle, had their personality,
Rochelle on the other hand, felt, rather bland, did not really have much dialogue, just did not feel like the other survivors.
INFECTED
The new infected are quite interesting, in their own aspects.
The Spitter, is quite a troublesome foe,
She is rather short, and looks very much like the other zeds, so, it's kinda hard to spot her, from a distance, her main attack.
Is spitting an acid goo, from a long distance, and that's why she is so troublesome, unlike the Boomer, that essentially, vomits, the throw-up does not reach more than 5-7 feet.
Whilst the Spitter, can spit, for quite a distance, when her goo lands on the floor, it seems to spread, causing some damage, if you don't imminently get out of the way.
JOCKEY
Another annoying fellow, he tends to cling on your head, and 'steer' you away from the survivors.
He is low to the ground, but you can hear, his maniac chuckles, from far away, and tends to get killed before he has a chance to cling on you.
CHARGER
Creepy foe, as intimidating as the tank, but not as strong.
The creature looks like a regular overalls bearing infected, except for that heavily deformed arm.
Which in term, ads to it's ability.
He charges at you (Similar to some of the bosses in the game Zeno Clash)
After dragging you a couple a feet, he uses his enlarged arm to slam you to the ground multiple times. You can take quite a beating from him, if your teammates delay just mere seconds.
He dies rather quickly, and like the jockey, get's killed more times, than it is actually killing someone.
THE OTHER SI
The original infected are still at it. with new skins,
The Boomer now has a girlfriend, I shall politely name her To Toña.
The Hunter as well has a new summer outfit, complete with a sleeveless shirt, and some ripped pants.
The witch, while she hasn't changed, she can walk around, thickening the plot.
UNCOMMON INFECTED
The level 'The Parish' has only two uncommon infected.
One wearing a Hazmat suit, making him fireproof, and the other, the riot infected, being able to withstand bullets from the front, due to all that armor. (though the back is unprotected)
Being this a demo, I only had a chance to see the riot infected,
An uzi, mac 11 etc. do not have the kinetic power to stop this special infected.
while a shot from a shot gun, tends to have enough kinetic force, to make it fall backwards, often times leaving his back exposed, for a final shot. REMEMBER KIDDIES, DOUBLE TAP.
WEAPONS
Mac11
feels very much like the Uzi, from the first game. Howbeit, it has a different sound, due to the fact it has a suppressor, and a crudely attached flashlight, by the means of zip ties.
650 rounds.
Chrome Shotgun
Has a metal, matte finish (Hence the name), very similar to it's original game counterpart.
In fact, it feels exactly the same, as the one in the original game.
But, with a slightly lowered cocking speed.
Spaz 12
Very good weapon, which sounds similar to hitting a stick upon a metal fence, it feels slightly less powerful than
the Benelli M3(?)
SCAR L
An interesting weapon, that in my opinion is amazing, while bit unrealistic, as no US army, let alone CEDA agents use them.
(Maybe private security firm)
Has a 3 shot burst, which you (depending on the person) may love/hate. has 60 rounds per mag. Relatively accurate as well.
AK47
Very powerful weapon, albeit with horrible accuracy, even when crouching, it seems to be worse the the Scar, and M16.
But, as said before, it is a very powerful weapon. Not good for 'run and gun' as the rounds will go all over the place,
except for the intended target.
MILITARY HUNTING RIFLE
I don't know what is the exact model, but has very similar properties to the Hunting rifle, from the original game.
Carries alot more rounds (sorry can't remember the exact number) than the hunting rifle. When when you shoot, your cross hairs
don't spread out as far.
PISTOLS
The pistol you start out with, (P22), or when you go akimbo with the Glock 17 on the left hand, it is bad.
Apart from the weapons being almost useless by the new melee, they feel a lot less powerful. And the animations are really bad.
Nothing wrong with the reloading animations, but the shooting ones feel very stiff, and looked poorly design, like a 10 minute job
using MAYA.
DESSERT EAGLE
The weaboo of all weapons the DEAGLE, it's a almost a staple in every game (I would say the same with the AK47, but you really do find them in the South)
weaboo aside, it takes regular zeds in one shot, but looks very oversize, almost as if, the survivor had it no more than 3 inches away from his/hers
right cheek.
MELEE
The only melee weapons worth mentioning are the frying pan, and the Machete, Both of the quite powerful in their unique ways.
The Machete is probably the most powerful of them all, capable of taking 4 zeds at a time, with fast slicing speed.
The frying pan is very commonly found, specially on the first level
The other melee aren't as powerful.
BOOMER VILE
The power of the Boomer at your finger tips. Great for tanks
ADRENALINE
Injections the survivor takes, very similar in effects to the pills.
LEVEL DESIGN
I love how Valve's mappers switch from a war torn city, to a cartoon style design or in this case, the colorful flavors of
New Orlean, the levels where beautifully made, with details in every corner.
While, there is a few glitches, over all, it was pretty well designed.
While the first map felt very small in length, (About the equivalent to No Mercy 1) it had an interesting thing. A jukebox,
that plays different songs, mostly songs from Jonathan Coulton (Alse made 'Still Alive' from portal, ironically enough, 'Still Alive'
is in the jukebox, but shows up very rarely, as an easter egg)
SECOND LEVEL
The secong part of the demo, is a lot longer, with an interesting cresendo event. You start out by exiting a CEDA vehicle, starting an alarm
to which you have to race thru all the fences (Probably used by CEDA agents to see if your infected or not) to stop an alarm located in a crudely made
watchtower. All whilst having zombies chasing you, in waves.
CONCLUSION
If you liked Left 4 Dead, your gonna really like this one, If you hated Left 4 Dead, try the public demo coming out,
you just might like all the new jazz.
Personally, I can't wait to play the full game!
